Award Deadline & Announcement of Awards
For Summer 2009, applications are due by 5:00 pm on April 10, 2009 with award decisions announced by April 24. Applications will be reviewed by members of the Executive Committee of the Center for Ethics in Public Life and final decisions will be made by Janet Weiss, Dean of the Graduate School, and John Chamberlin, Director of the Center for Ethics in Public Life. All students will be notified by email of the status of their application.
Selection Criteria
Selection of fellows will be based on the degree to which the dissertation project engages ethics in public life, the stage of completion of the dissertation (with work ready to be presented in the workshop), and a letter of support from a faculty member familiar with the applicant’s research. The program will make awards to students from a diverse set of departments and disciplines.
Materials to be Submitted with Application
- A description of the applicant’s dissertation project, indicating the theoretical or scholarly context into which the work fits and how the project is related to ethics in public life (maximum of 1,500 words)
- A statement by the applicant concerning the current state of progress in writing the dissertation, including an indication of the material the applicant proposes to present at the workshop
- A statement detailing your time commitments for the duration of the fellowship
- Information detailing existing summer support
- A letter of support from the dissertation chair or faculty advisor
